Doss Wins Big At West Coast Short Track Championships At The Bullring

Jeremy Doss doubled down at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

The Upper Lake Calif., driver survived a caution-filled SPEARS Southwest Tour race to take yet another checkered flag at the 3/8-mile track and clinch the series' season championship in the process. Doss - who won the $15,000 Senator's Cup Fall Classic in Las Vegas last month - led the majority of the 150 laps and crossed the line 1.206 seconds ahead of Eric Schmidt for the $10,000 winner's check.

"I'm just so happy to get the championship," said Doss, who needed to finish ninth or better at the season finale to sew up the series title. "We've gotten second twice in the series points, so it feels so good to get the championship and top it off with a win here. I felt like I needed to get out front and set my own pace, and the cautions didn't count the laps down, but saved my tires."

Doss led Ricky Schlick at the race's midway refueling break, which came at 70 laps, and nailed at least a dozen re-starts to maintain his grip on the front of the pack. He was thrilled to claim his first SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship at a place he loves racing.

"This is my favorite track, for sure, and so it felt good to come here for our final points race," Doss said. "This is the track I feel I'm best at, and I'm so happy."

Justin Johnson, the 2017 Bullring NASCAR Super Late Model points champion, took home the win in the final 100-lap Lucas Oil Modified feature after taking the lead from second-place finisher Dylan Cappello with 16 to go. Cappello was the race leader at the break, which came after 42 laps, with Ryan Schartau in second and Johnson in third place.

Johnson, who has 53 regular-season Bullring wins, was all smiles after the big series victory.

"It's been great, and the guys behind me here, I can't thank them enough," Johnson said. "I've got to give it up to Chris Bray for building a great car and getting it all squared away at the halfway break so I'd be able to get the job done at the end. I know where there's a great, fast car if I choose to run again next year."

Tanner Reif dominated the 40-lap Jr. Late Models feature, taking the checkered flag ahead of his brother, Tyler, by 2.512 seconds. Tanner Reif - who finished second in The Bullring's 2018 Jr. Late Models points standings - won three times in the regular season and was happy to return to the short track's Winner's Circle.

"It feels good to win in our hometown," Reif said. "I'd like to thank my crew, my parents, my sponsors and all my friends who came out tonight."

USAC HPD Midgets racer and fan favorite Toni Breidinger led every single lap on her way to a breakaway victory Saturday night by 9.517 seconds. The win was her second in two nights, as she won the series' Friday night feature as well.

"This track is an amazing track to race at, it's a lot of fun and the competition is always good here," Breidinger said. "I'm just trying to move up the ladder and get to where I want to get to in racing. I've driven so many different cars for so many different teams, and it's been a huge learning experience."

POLICE CHASE LAS VEGAS COMING TO LVMS IN JANUARY

Police Chase Las Vegas will open in January 2019.

In January, Police Chase Las Vegas will offer thrill seekers an opportunity so unique that it can't be replicated anywhere else in the United States.

Patrons will go behind the scenes and actually participate in a simulated police chase. Hearts will pound as lights flash and sirens blare when "suspects" attempt to outrun the guns as they are pursued by the "police."

In the end, participants will agree that getting "caught" is half the fun.

Participants play the role of either or both a police officer and a suspect. Once initial roles have been assigned, participants will be placed into either a patrol car or suspect vehicle.

The excitement begins to build when, out of a dead silence, the police officer is contacted over the crackling patrol car radio by the command center, who informs them that felons are fleeing the scene of a crime and that suspects are in the area. Moments later, the suspect's car races by the patrol car.

The police officer then switches on the lights and sirens and the chase begins. Once the suspect has been "caught," drivers switch places, and the hunter becomes the hunted as the chase begins again.

"Police Chase Las Vegas is going to be a thrilling attraction for anyone who takes part," Las Vegas Motor Speedway President Chris Powell said. "Nowhere else in the world can a person take advantage of this type of automotive activity. Our speedway often has been called the world's most diverse motorsports facility, and the addition of Police Chase Las Vegas underscores that diversity.

"It will offer a unique experience that is certain to create many memorable moments for every customer. We're looking forward to this new and exciting partnership."

Police Chase Las Vegas will have a soft opening on Jan. 13, 2019, and the grand opening will take place on Jan. 19, 2019.

"We are very excited to make Las Vegas Motor Speedway the home of Police Chase Las Vegas," Police Chase Las Vegas partner Damian Sheets said. "We bring such a unique, one-of-a-kind, adrenaline-pumping experience, unlike anything anywhere in the country outside of Las Vegas, that people who try it, are absolutely blown away. Everyone at some point has dreamed of what it would be like to be a police officer, or to run from the cops without consequence. This is your chance."

Police Chase Las Vegas offers guests additional experiences beyond the original police and suspect chase. Other options include experiencing "PIT Maneuvers." Police Chase Las Vegas offerings are not otherwise available to the public anywhere else in the country (and are exclusive to law enforcement professionals).
Police Chase Las Vegas is not all fun and games. Participants are given classroom as well as hands-on safety training by police professionals with vast training in all areas of defensive driving.

The program offerings are primarily based on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's "Emergency Vehicle Obstacle Course." The experience incorporates many parts of actual training programs used by the police in Las Vegas, as taught by former LVMPD law enforcement training staff.

Porter wins season finale at Havasu 95 Speedway

Mark Allison can now call himself a series champion.

The veteran driver from Las Vegas finished third in the 35-lap Late Model Truck Series season finale at Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., on Saturday night to clinch the first-year series’ season title. Allison – who won the Oct. 13 LMTS race at The Speedway at Willow Springs in Rosamond, Calif. – finished the year with 242 points to edge series co-managers Gary Wyatt (218) and Mike Riefler (211) for the season crown.

Andrew Porter took the checkered flag at the 10-truck season finale, with Dennis Arena crossing the line second. John Nahoopii followed Allison in fourth, with Eric Reschke rounding out the top five.

The race was the feature of the Salute to Veterans Weekend for the regional series. Allison received product certificate toward Richmond Gear discounts in addition to the payout, and the top five finishers took home The Racer’s Rewards Contingency Connection coupon books with up to $3,000 in race product coupons.

“Congratulations to Mark Allison for his season championship, and Gary Wyatt and I couldn’t be more pleased to have him represent the Late Model Truck Series,” Riefler said. “We had a great season, with four different race winners and great competition, and we’d like to thank all of our sponsors and partners who made it possible. We are looking forward to an even bigger and better 2019.”

Thane Alderman won the series’ season-opener at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Aug. 25, with Dustin Ash taking the checkered there on Sept. 22. Reschke finished fourth in points with 166, with Mike McKearn claiming fifth place with 109.

The region’s truck racing lineage dates back to the Speed Truck Series that originated in 1997 under the American Speed Association (ASA). MechanixWear gloves and Go Fast! energy drinks sponsored the class throughout the years, and the trucks raced at up to 10 different tracks in California, Arizona and Nevada before the ASA disbanded in 2013.

The series trucks feature a full-tube chassis, a 330-horsepower sealed V-8 spec engine and two-speed direct-drive transmission, with a clutch pedal dump valve, coupled to an aluminum quick-change rear end. The trucks sport replica fiberglass bodies of the Chevrolet S-10, Chevrolet Colorado, Dodge Dakota, Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma.

Series partners include the On Wheels Now online radio show – the longest-running motorsports radio show in Las Vegas – Melling Performance Racing, The Bomber Nation, KO Mechanical Services, Gary’s Trailer Repair, Nevada Pic-A-Part, The “Racer’s Rewards” Contingency Connection, Richmond Gear and ReliableBanner.com.

The Late Model Truck series will return in March 2019 with a new season full of fast action truck racing.
